The following statistics and details have been produced by research over many years by the CWU Health, Safety & Environment Department to support the 'Bite-Back'
Campaign and demonstrate the growing problem with dog control in the UK. With the recent fatal dog attack in Sunderland, this month, a sad milestone was reached with dog attack deaths reaching 30 in total. 27 of those have occurred since 2005, indicating a very worrying, sharp increase in deaths over the last decade.
The CWU Research is widely regarded as the most thorough and comprehensive on this subject and has been used by the Police, Defra, Local Authorities, Dog Wardens and Animal/Dog Charities.
The Health, Safety & Environment Department are publishing the statistics during the 2015 Dog Awareness week as a stark reminder of the dangers and difficulties Postal
Workers face on a daily basis, visiting the nation's 29 million addresses 6 days a week, providing the best Postal service in the world, whilst relying on dog owners to be responsible and to exercise basic controls and common sense.
